Porous resin floor for improved outdoor spaces
Brief Description
Remmers were approached to propose an alternative external flooring system for a flagship new build garden centre. This was due to the original tar macadam surfacing being deemed unexciting and lacking in inspiration.
Problems and Requirements
The area to be covered was 3170m² and would be split into zones including walkways, which would be coloured according to the products on display, and a children’s play area.
The pavement was required to be porous so that the water recovery system for the site was able to collect percolating water for re-use as irrigation for the garden centre.
The system comprised of 15mm thick resin bound system using Remmers PUR UV100 binder. The clear Aliphatic PUR binder is flexible, UV stable and toughened to resist regular pallet truck and trolley traffic, as well as heavy pedestrian usage. A fabric layer was also introduced into the system build up to mitigate weeds and soil migration over time.
Remmers Playsafe system – PUR Bound Rubber Crumb Paving – was installed into the children’s play area with a coloured EPDM topping, giving the area a safe, bright and inviting finish.
