New chemical and slip resistant resin flooring for refurbishment of airport maintenance facility
Brief Description
Problems and Requirements
Over the years, finishes had suffered significantly on the wing docks through constant exposure to Skydrol. Many years of decay, re-coat and further decay needed to be addressed before the bespoke floor finish could be installed. These areas also required a positive anti slip treatment for workers safety.
Remmers Epoxy WHG Color was specified as the finishing topcoat to all areas to provide long-term durability combined with excellent chemical resistance.
The nose docks are designed to be mobile platforms to ensure they can accommodate a number of models of aircraft.
With this in mind, the finish again needed to be resistant to aviation chemicals but also flexible to allow long term performance on the moving wood boarded structure.
Various challenges existed during the project, such as fast track installation over seven day old concrete, where new ducting and pipework had been installed within the concrete slab.
The overall programme to finish this vast 9000m² space was 11-days, working around other trades to ensure minimal downtime in this busy environment.
